Trip: Bushong Mountain Park - Trail Repairs and Mountain Biking and Trail Running Weekend
When: September 18-20, 2026 - COME FOR SOME OR ALL.
Where: Bushong Mountain Park, 126 Mountain St, Leakey, TX 78873 (This Google Maps link will take you to the meet up point.)
What: This is going to be a fun effort! Spread the word! This weekend will be full of working on trails, riding trails, hiking trails, and running trails!
GENERAL INFO:
This trail work trip is brought to you and led by the Frio Valley Cycling Extension and Bushong Mountain Park. Tejas Trails is simply joining their efforts. If you got to this page and have nothing to do with Tejas Trails, please use this RSVP nonetheless. We are just helping organize everyone and spread the word.
Tejas Trails was given the privilege by Bushong Mountain Park to hold trail running, gravel bike race segments, and mountain bike races on their property as part of the Frio Trio Endurance Festival.
The foundation behind the park has already built an incredible set of trails. There are some sections that need cleaning up, bench cutting and drainage improvements, after the last hard rain storms they received. We will also be cutting a little bit of fresh connector trail to dial in the upcoming races.
Families and kids of all ages are welcome. The trails are for everyone! If you have no desire to run or ride a race on the trails, we would still love and really appreciate your help. These trails will be utilized all year, for generations to come.
These work days offer the chance to work side-by-side with old friends and make new friends.
If you can’t make it for all the planned days, we can use help for any part you can be there.
LOGISTICS DETAILS:
We will be working from 8:00am - 4:00pm. We ask everyone to arrive at 8:00am or 12:30pm if possible so that we can coordinate work groups. Depart at any time. If you can’t meet at that time, just let us know on your volunteer form and we’ll work with you.
We will be meeting at the parking lot on the edge of the park, unless you are told otherwise (via text, email or a phone call).
We will provide snacks, drinks, water, basic breakfast and lunch.
No cost to participate. Other than you’ll need your own food for main meals (great restaurants right there to choose from), and lodging.
LODGING & CAMPING DETAILS:
There are endless lodging and camping spaces in and around Leakey.
We suggest checking out Camp Cold Springs. Garner State Park has a lot of campsites and shelters.
See more options on the Visit Real County website and the Frio Canyon Chamber of Commerce site.
WHAT TO WEAR/BRING:
Be sure to read the list on the general Trail Crew Page HERE.
You do not need a camping chair, camping gear or a headlamp for this event.
If you have a string trimmer that you are willing to bring, we could use it. Tejas Trails will reimburse you for any gas and oil used. Just remember to ask while you’re there.
DAILY SCHEDULE:
8:00am: Arrival at the parking area at the front (main entrance of the park). Work group assignments, Safety Briefing.
8:30am: Depart by foot or by vehicle to work locations. The walk could be a couple of miles depending on the section of trail we are working that day.
12:00pm: Return to main parking lot to depart. Depending on distance from work location, we may decide to eat lunch on trail rather than hike back.

4:00pm-5:00pm (or whenever you need to be done): Return to the main parking lot to depart.
