Frio Trio Team Championships Extra Details
Rules are simple. Teams consist of at least 2 people, and up to 5 people max (one per race). Any combo of genders. One of your teammates will participate in each race. All teams are in the same category as each other, no matter how many you show up with. So, if you have fewer than 5 team members, you’ll have to work harder to stay in the hunt. The top 3 Teams will be rewarded with cool team trophies and ultimate bragging rights in off-road racing!
Show Me The Money Races
Each day, we will have a super-fun race with a prize purse. One for bikes, one on the river, and one on foot. The prize purse will be made up of the total registrants’ reg fees, minus a few bucks for race expenses, split by the winning guy and gal in each race.
Friday: Slowest Mountain Bike Race in Texas
How slow can you go? is the name of the game here. We will have a short loop laid out. Everyone starts at the same start line. Then the only rules are that your wheels have to be moving and you can’t touch the ground. If your body touches the ground (a.k.a. “dab” or fall over), or get caught track standing, an official will advance you immediately to the next marker. Whoever goes the least distance in the allotted time wins.
Saturday: Stand Up Paddleboard
Starting with a sprint to the water at Rio Frio Rock Island, you’ll paddle 2 miles downstream to Camp Cold Springs. The first person to get out of the water and across the finish line wins.
Sunday: King & Queen of the Hill
This is what it sounds like. We will have a 2-2.5-mile lollipop-style course up to the top of Bushong Mountain and back. First person across the finish line wins.
Maps

River
Please note that the course may change last minute for a myriad of reasons. This file and profile image may not get updated. The course markings will be correct and the official designation of the course for the race.
These routes might shift over the summer, as we continue to make fun tweaks.
But these maps will give you the main idea.
Swag & Stuff
Register before the shirt cutoff and you'll get a super cool race shirt that you’ll actually want to wear. Register after the cutoff, and you'll still walk away with a cool, race logo’ed non-size specific item (like a hat, drink ware, neck gaiter, or something similar).
Extra Race Details
Course Markings
We will have fully marked courses so you can enjoy the ride, run, and paddling without stress. For the gravel bike race, we will have larger visuals everywhere you exit and re-enter roadways. And we will provide downloadable tracks for the gravel bike race. For the Stand Up Paddleboard Race, we will make the put in and exit are very obvious. We will also have volunteers greeting you out of the water to the finish line on shore. For all trail courses, we will have directional arrows anytime there is a choice to be made, and will block off the wrong ways with barricade tape and wrong way signs. We also clip bright orange confidence markers in the sections between intersections to help you feel good that you are still on course.
Cupless Racing
After years of cleaning up discarded cups at aid stations, and wasting a lot of trees, we implemented cupless racing. This means that for any hydration at an aid station you will need to bring your own cup, flask bottle, or bladder. We will also DQ for littering, which isn’t limited to cups. Anything that isn’t natural to the area is considered littering (which includes fruit peels, for example). If you or your spectators are seen littering, you may be disqualified and pulled from the race.
Timing
We will be timing all of the races except for the Youth races and the Show Me The $$ races. You’ll be given a timing chip that you must wear during the race. If you do not make it back to the finish line, please return your timing chip so that we know you are back and safe. We will search for anyone we don’t have a timing chip for! Live race results will be available via a link that will be in your pre-race email.
Aid Stations
We relish the opportunity to put on a party and a feast for you during the race. The gravel bike race will have at least two aid stations on course with hydration and grab n’ go snacks. The mountain bike race will have an aid station at the next lap/finish line. All other trail races will all have aid stations on course as well as the start/finish/next lap line. We will update course maps and add an aid station chart closer to the event.
Just Coming for the Spectating
A major part of this weekend is the community around the race, and spectators are a key ingredient. If you or your loved ones aren’t racing, we want you there. Tell everyone in your family and friends groups to come join the fun. Bring the kids, grandma and grandpa and the family dog. They can even purchase the Meal Package without a Runsignup account.
