I've been a competitive runner & passionate outdoorsman since my youth. When I got married & then started a family, my training, race preparation & racing no doubt affected my family. My wife is fantastic & encouraged me to continue racing & having adventures, but it was crazy-tough for her to wait for me for hours on end at the events, especially with a little one.
It hit us that we could create our Tejas Trails to be events with the family in mind, not just the racer. We are doing as much as we can to lead the industry in creating events where the entire family: will have things to do, where your children will want to come along, will enjoy hanging out, exercising together, playing in the woods, and creating great memories together.
We have decided to be sure our company is doing more than just putting on racing events. We want to do as much as we can with our lives to help others. In the winter of 2016, our baby boy Shepperd Lee, was born early and didn't make it. We decided in that moment that we would honor his life by enriching others' lives. We decided we must make Tejas Trails about more than just trail running. As much as I love trail running & ultra distance endurance competitions, I do know how it can take over your life & cause one to separate oneself from others to an unhealthy level. Especially with still having a toddler, we are very motivated to create environments where people grow closer together from these races. We want to be dang sure we don't create experiences that cause gaps in marriages & relationships.
