Course Description:
The course is divided into two sections – East side and West side.
The run will start on the main park road by the RV dump station and will be run
in the opposite direction (clockwise) of what the mountain bikers ride.
60km/30km: Run up the main park road towards the bridge by the restaurant and pick up the
trail to the right of the park road. This will put you on the East Side
of the lake. After running the trails on the East Side, the trail will bring
you back to the entrance of the park where you will then start the West Side
trails. Follow the West Side trails back to the finish.
10km: Run up the main park road to the park entrance
and take a right at the levee to start the West Side. Follow the West Side
trails back to the finish.
The course
is mainly single-track mountain bike trails that are one way. The West
side is 83% single-track, 15% gravel road, and 2% paved road. The East
side is 93% single-track, 5% gravel road, and 2% paved road. The East
and West sides both have about the same amount of tree cover – about
80% each, but the East side is much denser. The East side has short
drops and climbs through creek beds, which are usually dry, while the
West side has no creek bed crossings, but does go up and down the levee
more than the East side.
This is not
a difficult trail and has very little elevation change, but it does
have roots, a few short climbs and drops, and a lot of twists and
turns. If it has rained recently, there will be mud and water on the
course in certain sections on both the East and West side.
