Rocky Racoon 100 Mile
Huntsville Texas
1-2 February 2003

Deborah Sexton

For those of you who missed the Rocky Raccoon 50-100 miler, it was a beautiful day with the temperatures ranging from 38 to 70 and the trail was the driest I?ve seen it in two years.

The awesome NTTR tent was up and as always Mark Dick and Letha and I don?t know who else did a great job of stocking it with heaters, cots, and supplies. Jay and Antje worked aid stations and Letha and Tom Crull paced Thorsen and Monica Burt respectively. Monica: You have to send a report on how you did! She passed me at one point looking great! Bill was at the dinner but I never saw him again for some reason. Paul Stone also was at the pre-race dinner drumming up support for his 25K/50K race this weekend in Tyler.

The good news is I finished! The bad news is it took me 15 hours 15 min. I ran the first two loops in about 5:30 but the third loop took about 4 hours and the last loop about six hours because I was walking. The knee gave out and I got a horrible blister on my left foot. Jay carried my bag as I hobbled my way back to my car afterwards. Thanks Jay!

I got to see Ann Treason (is that how you spell it?) fly by me at the speed of light so I bet she set some kind of record. Chrissy Ferguson also passed me about six times. I was about a mile from the finish and she speeds by noting that she had one more 20-mile loop. So she had run 80 miles in the time it took me to do 50!

Mickey Rollins was at his best serenading us with his guitar during dinner and my two buddies from Bandera were also there: Doug Gimenez and Pete Cahill who finished Bandera with me. I also finally got to meet Wayne Webb. He had a wonderful aid station at spot 174.
